Hair today....gone tomorrow

Happy Wednesday everyone! Chemo this past Friday went well. It felt strange at first arriving by myself, but all in all it was a positive experience. I brought a book with me and had the pleasure of just sitting and reading uninterrupted for a couple of hours. (what could be better!) Since I'm no longer getting my benadryl, I'm staying awake the whole time and it's nice to just sit are relax with a good book. (I'm currently reading "Little Dorrit" by Charles Dickens. It is a mini series on PBS, but I didn't know it would take WEEKS to finish and I got impatient to find out what happened, so I'm reading "ahead!" Shhh don't tell)

I've been feeling alright, no major side effects to write home about, except one. Just when I thought I couldn't possibly lose any more hair (I'm bald already so what else is there?) it seems that I'm destined to be eyebrowless. (OK I made that word up...but you know what I mean) I noticed a couple of weeks ago that my eyebrows seemed to be thinning out (and I wasn't even plucking them! lol) so I've been keeping a wary watch on them. Lo and behold in the last few days they have all but disappeared. There are a few stray hairs clinging for dear life, but it kind of reminds me of a man with a "comb over," and since I refuse to draw on scary eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil it is what it is. Even though it's scary to see...here's what I'm talking about.

WARNING: Seeing a close up of my dry skin can be hazardous to your health. Proceed with caution!

See what I mean?! The ones remaining seem to be clinging on for dear life! Well, even though they are few and far between I'm hoping the remaining hairs decided to stick around. If not, anyone have a stick on mustache that I can trim? (Yes, I'm getting the moisturizer right NOW!)

  1. Ha ha! The "comb over" reference had me laughing out loud at my computer! I raise my coffee cup in an e-toast (that's electronic toast via computer) to you Joanne! I'm glad you got to drink a cup of coffee this morning and that everything went well last week. Thanks for the humor, as usual :) Have a great day!

  2. well it doesn't matter how dry your skin is or how hairless you become, you are still a beautiful woman inside and out. You know I got to thinking, does that mean if you had hair on your upper lip or some horrible chin hairs, they are gone too?? I had neither until I had my kids and now I think I could just puke everytime I see or feel a stray one... so if you had any and they are gone, then great for them...if not, consider a transplant lovey :) just playing. I hope you continue to do well and I am so happy that coffee & caffeine are settling well for you now :) Keep your chin (albeit a hairless one) up my dear! Happy Earth Day!

  4. To brow or not to brow, that is the question...that reminds me of Dad and his "TB or not TB that is congestion, consumption be done about, of cough of cough but it will take a lung lung time..." or this...Life, what's that...well you know the rest and I won't bore the rest of your readers with it.

With or without hair, you're still the bestest sister ever and I love you more than life itself.

  5. Hi Joanne! I just wanted to let you know that I've been following your blog, but am just now getting around to opening an account so I can comment. You have been in my thoughts, and I'm glad to see you moving forward. It's nice to know that you are enjoying coffee once again! Take care.

  6. Hi Joanne,
Glad to hear the side effects are lessening. I had my first treatment yesterday. Had a "little" allergic reaction, well ok, a BIG reaction to taxotere but it was taken care of and I'm ok. I saw the close up of your eye brow and eyes. They still look beautiful to me! Keep up the faith and finish that series - it sounds good. Is it going to be on PBS soon? Love ya! 7. Oh, feeling guilty here as I have popped on and off to catch up on how you are doing, but realized it has been far too long since I left a note! When I first read this when you posted, I had wondered what would happen in Eyebrowland with all you are going through. Typical of you though to put a light spin on it. You really are my hero, Joanne.
