Haircut
Well, last night was the night! It was haircut time. My daughters Carly and Jessica, as well as my sister, Melissa, went with me for moral support. (Rach, I know you would have been there too, but college is important too! xoxo) It was only the initial "cutting of the ponytail" that was the worst. I closed my eyes and waited for it to be over. After that, I asked Misty, my wonderful hairdresser, to turn me away from the mirror. I then waited patiently for her to work her magic.
It was over before I knew it (ok..that's a lie...it seemed like I was sitting in that chair FOREVER!) but when she finally turned me around, I was happy with the results. It didn't look like "me" but that's ok too...everything else is changing around me, so I might as well go with the flow. I'm sending the ponytail off today to Locks of Love and feel good that something positive is coming from all of this. I might need to wear a scarf today, my neck won't be used to the cold! lol
xoxo

Hi Mom,
ReplyDeleteMy friend Sarah in Chicago wanted to leave a comment for you. However, she couldn't get it to work. She asked me to post this for her. She says:
What an amazing and courageous act of kindness! I too cut my hair and donated it to Locks of Love. It was quite a shock, I actually started crying, but then I realized my tears where tears of joy. Joy that I would be helping others in need. Angels are on your side (and one of them is named Jessica)
You are an amazing women, and you LOOK GREAT!
Joanne, I think you look very YOUTHFUL with your new haircut! Bill, Dawson and I all got haircuts yesterday in Florida at Rapunzel Hair Salon (she trimmed Dawson's bangs outside for us). The name of the place scared me a little but it turned out OK. I personally know three different people who got hair (wigs) from Locks of Love. Now I have to watch people on the street to see if they are wearing your hair :) :) I love and admire your spirit and know you will triumph!!!! I'm thinking of you.......Love, nancy
ReplyDeletegreat cut for you! I know you were sad about letting it go, but think of the life/lives you will touch in the end with the donation. you are an amazingly strong woman and I am rooting for you all the way...you're in my prayers daily, and I know the Lord is watching over you. God bless my CC buddy!

Joanne, I just realized what you need to do... get something really funky and edgy done to your hair before the chemo starts! Get some wild colored streaks going! Something that you wouldn't normally do! Then who knows... you may not be so sad to see it go!! Hugs! ~Mel
ReplyDeleteHey Joanne,
ReplyDeleteLove the new haircut, very cute and sassy! Hope you found a cute new scarf, maybe orange?! Loved seeing the pictures of you and your family:) Thanks for the Blue Ribbon wishes...they worked! The kids and everyone were really excited :) The kids wanted to make cards to say hi and send good wishes your way. I'll send them in your Friday Folder. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow, hugs to you !!!
Love,
Marcia
Hi Joanne,
ReplyDeleteGod is good. You are so beautiful and strong. My name is Andrea M. McCaskill and I have just read your story and I pray that God will heal you and show you His power. Sometimes God will allow things to happen to us so that He (God) can show the world just who He is. Sometimes God will put us in a place that only He can deliver us from. I see in your eyes the strength, courage and love of a true survivor. Joanne you are a survivor. I'm praying for you please know that. But God is giving you a testimony. Have a safe and blessed day and I will be keeping up with you.
Love,
Andrea M. McCaskill
I LOVE the short hair. I think it is great that with everything you are going through you still took the time to think of other people, as you so often do! Your a very strong person I think you will do great durring your chemo!!
